The Greenwich Stop Smoking Service in partnership with Charlton Athletic Community Trust are launching a brand new roadshow on January 19th, encouraging residents of the borough to ’Quit Your Way, Today!’ The roadshow will tour around the Greenwich borough for 9 weeks, visiting high footfall areas such as high streets and supermarkets, and offer dedicated 1-1 stop smoking support.
With so many different ways to stop smoking now, there’s never been a better time to quit. The Greenwich Stop Smoking Service are here to help you every step of the way, no matter how many times you’ve tried to stop before. Whether you prefer to quit with the help of drop-in centres, stop smoking medications or e-cigarettes, we’re here to support you with whatever you choose.
There are lots of benefits to quitting, including reducing your risk of developing smoking related illnesses, having a bit more cash, protecting those around you from secondhand smoke, improving your breathing and general fitness and even improving your appearance – your skin will be brighter and your teeth will be easier to keep white!
There will be lung age tests available, as well as carbon monoxide readings and free, local support from a team of trained stop smoking advisors. You’re 4 times more likely to quit with support, so the friendly advisors will be on hand to help you choose your best way to stop smoking.
Sarah Pyke used the Clover Heath drop in centre as support when she quit smoking earlier this year.
“I was approached by one of the guys in a Charlton jacket on the street, who asked if I’d thought about giving up smoking,” she said.
“I attended the drop-in the following week and met Mark, who was brilliant. He asked me my reasons for quitting and I explained that wanted to improve my health and save some money.
“The drop-ins had a lovely, friendly atmosphere and the verbal support I received from Mark was excellent – the talks and encouragement he gave were just what I needed to manage my cravings and give up cigarettes for good. I also managed to lose some weight during the process!
“I would definitely recommend anyone thinking about quitting to give it a go. I’m now at the stage where I can honestly say I will never smoke a cigarette again."
The roadshow will be at the following locations:
Tuesdays, Orangery Lane Car Park, 10am-5pm
Wednesdays, Sainsbury's, Charlton, 10am-5pm
Thursdays, Morrisons Pharmacy, 12noon-7pm
Fridays, ASDA, Charlton, 10am-5pm
Saturdays, General Gordon Square, Woolwich, 11am-5pm
